Pest control in Lilydale
Lilydale is the end of the railway line, a town on Olinda Creek with green wedge farmland making up two-fifths of the suburb.

Olinda Creek and the lake
Olinda Creek rises in the Dandenong Ranges and runs through Lilydale on its way to the Yarra. Lillydale Lake is a wetland recreation area with housing estates built around it. About a tenth of Lilydale is under the flood overlay on the planning maps, though very little of that is residential land.
Wet ground means mosquitoes. The Department of Health's advice is to get rid of stagnant water around the house and to use repellent.

Surveyed in 1860
Lilydale was surveyed in 1860. The railway station building dates from 1882 and the Mechanics Institute from 1888, and the planning maps carry sixteen heritage places across the suburb.

Termites in Yarra Ranges
The whole of Yarra Ranges is designated under the Building Regulations as an area where buildings are likely to be attacked by termites. New building work has to be protected; a detached shed or garage doesn't. For a house already standing, the usual check is a timber pest inspection, mostly non-invasive under AS 4349.3, and treatment needs a pest controller whose licence covers timber pests. Termites goes further.

Kitchens on Main Street
Lilydale's shops line both sides of Main Street, with two shopping centres, Lilydale Village and Lilydale Marketplace, off it. Any food business among them is bound by the Food Standards Code to take all practicable measures to keep pests out of the premises and to get rid of any that get in.

Farmland inside the boundary
Lilydale is not all suburb. About two-fifths of it is green wedge and farming land on the planning maps, more than the town's residential streets. On a farm block, the Catchment and Land Protection Act makes established pest animals the owner's problem: reasonable steps to stop them spreading and, as far as possible, wipe them out. Cardinia's council names wild rabbits as one such animal.
Deer go to the council, whose deer program has had state funding since 2021; call the Deer Program Officer on 1300 368 333. Who to call sorts the rest.
Checked 25 October 2026 against Vicmap Planning, the state's zone and overlay maps (DataVic), measured across the suburb, Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 (Vic), s.20 (authorised version 072), Cardinia Shire Council: problem animals and Yarra Ranges Council: deer.
Where Lilydale ends
- Mooroolbark and Chirnside Park
- To the west, more suburban streets, still Yarra Ranges.
- Coldstream, Wandin North and Gruyere
- Farm country, in the same shire, so the same termite designation.
