Pest control in Wesburn

Wesburn is one strip of houses along the Warburton Highway, with park and reserve covering nearly two thirds of the land behind it.

One strip of houses, and park behind it

Wesburn is mostly rural, with a narrow run of houses along and just off the Warburton Highway. Behind them, nearly two thirds of the suburb is park or reserve on the planning maps, and about a quarter is green wedge and farming.

With that much bush at the back fence, a possum in the roof is a likely call. Wildlife can't be killed, trapped or disturbed without a permit. A brushtail may be trapped humanely, but only to be released on the same property within 50 m, so the lasting fix is closing the gap it came through. Possums explains how.

Once West Warburton

The name comes from West Warburton. The post office opened as Warburton West in 1893 and was renamed Wesburn in 1925. Ten heritage places sit inside the suburb on the planning maps, more than in Millgrove, Yarra Junction or Gladysdale.

The termite designation

Yarra Ranges is a designated termite area. New building work has to be protected. For a house already standing, the check is a timber pest inspection, and treatment needs a technician licensed for timber pests.

Checked 25 October 2026 against Yarra Ranges Council: termites, Building Regulations 2018 (Vic), regs 150 and 151 (authorised version 031), Standards Australia: AS 4349.3-2010 and Department of Health: pest control licence applications.

Snakes and wasp nests

Yarra Ranges won't remove snakes, even from public land. They are protected, and a licensed snake controller moves them at the owner's cost; 136 186 has the list. The council treats wasp nests only on its own land, so one in a Wesburn garden is the householder's to have dealt with. Wasps and bees has more.

East and west on the highway

Millgrove and Warburton
East, towards the head of the valley. Same council, same rules.
Yarra Junction and Gladysdale
West and south, where farm and rural living land take over from park. Still Yarra Ranges, with the same termite designation.
