Pest control in Gladysdale

Gladysdale was named for a postmistress's daughter when the Powelltown tramway carried its mail, and it has no land zoned for town houses.

Sawmill country on the old tramway

Gladysdale was Slatey Creek until mail kept going astray, and was renamed after Gladys Petitt, the postmistress's daughter. The Victorian Hardwood company, which carried the mail on the tramway between Powelltown and Yarra Junction, ran the post office, and the Lloyd family bought land from the Petitts for a sawmill. None of it is zoned for town houses today: about two fifths is rural living and conservation, a little less is green wedge and farming, and nearly a fifth is park or reserve.

Termites and who may treat them

All of Yarra Ranges is a designated termite area. New building work in Gladysdale must be protected. For a house already standing, a timber pest inspection is the usual check. Treatment needs a technician whose licence includes timber pests: the general authorisation that excludes timber pests doesn't cover it. The Department of Health's register lists every current licence holder. Termites and the licence have more.

Like Gladysdale, no town zoning at all. All of them share its council and the termite designation.
