Pest control in Seville East

Seville East had its own post office only from 1954 to 1969. It is mostly farmland, and more of it lies under the flood overlay than in Seville.

Low, wet ground

About a sixth of Seville East is under the flood overlay on the planning maps, ten times the share in Seville next door. Ground that floods leaves water lying, and still water is where mosquitoes breed. The health department's advice is to get rid of stagnant water around the house and to avoid bites.

Farms, and a conservation zone

Nearly three-quarters of the land is green wedge farming and about a sixth is rural conservation zone. On the farmed part, established pest animals are the landowner's problem by law: an owner has to take reasonable steps to stop them spreading. Cardinia's council, to take one, lists wild rabbits. Possums, and the termite rule

A brushtail possum in the roof can be trapped humanely, but it must be released on the same property within 50 m of where it was caught. That is why sealing the entry point matters more than the trap. Possums explains. As for termites, all of Yarra Ranges is a designated termite area, and new building work has to be protected against them. Termites has the standards.

Seville: The bigger town next door, with far less of its land under the flood overlay.
Woori Yallock: An even larger share under the flood overlay, about a fifth.
Gruyere and Yellingbo: Farmland with more park. All of them are Yarra Ranges, so the termite designation is the same everywhere.
