Pest control in Yellingbo
The nature reserve near Yellingbo holds the last wild helmeted honeyeaters, and most of Yellingbo's own land is farmed.

Near the helmeted honeyeater's last wild home
The Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve holds the last wild population of the helmeted honeyeater, Victoria's state bird, as well as Leadbeater's possum and common heath. About a fifth of Yellingbo is park or reserve on the planning maps.
That is a reason to think about rat bait. The strongest kind, the second-generation anticoagulants, has been suspended nationally since March 2026, and BirdLife Australia has found dangerous levels of it in dead owls. A pest controller working near the reserve should be able to tell you what they plan to use. Rats and mice goes through it.

Parslow's Bridge farmland
The town grew around James Claxton's store, opened in 1883 beside Woori Yallock Creek, and was known for years as Parslow's Bridge before it took the name Yellingbo in 1946. Around three quarters of it is green wedge and farming land today.
Pest animals on a farm are the landowner's to deal with: the Catchment and Land Protection Act requires reasonable steps to stop established pest animals spreading, and Cardinia's council, for one, counts wild rabbits. For deer, Yarra Ranges' deer program is on 1300 368 333.

Possums, and the termite area
A brushtail in the roof can be trapped humanely but has to be released on the same property, within 50 m, so sealing the way in matters more than the trap. Possums has the detail. Yellingbo is also inside Yarra Ranges' designated termite area. New building work there has to be protected.
Checked 25 October 2026 against Victorian Government: brushtail possum management methods, Yarra Ranges Council: termites and Building Regulations 2018 (Vic), regs 150 and 151 (authorised version 031).
