Pest control in Chum Creek
Chum Creek was a sawmilling district before it was farmland, and none of its land is zoned residential today.
We connect you with a local pest controller who works in the Yarra Valley.

Selections and conservation land
A sawmill opened at Chum Creek in 1891, and the next year the land was surveyed for farm selections. On today's planning maps just over half is green wedge farming land and about a third is rural conservation zone, with a little park and reserve. None of it is zoned residential.
So houses sit on rural blocks, with the bush close. Snakes are protected, and it is illegal to capture, harm or kill one. Yarra Ranges won't remove them, even from public land, so the call is to a licensed snake controller, found through 136 186 at the caller's cost. Who to call covers snakes, possums and deer.

Pest animals and deer on the paddocks
Whoever owns the land has to take reasonable steps to prevent the spread of established pest animals and, as far as possible, eradicate them. The Act names none; Cardinia's council lists wild rabbits as one. Deer are handled through the council's deer program, which has run since 2021; its officer is on 1300 368 333.

Building in a termite area
The shire is designated for termites. New building work at Chum Creek needs termite protection; under the Building Regulations, a detached shed is exempt. Termites explains the standards.
