Pest control in Wonga Park
Wonga Park runs down to the Yarra and Warrandyte State Park, and most of it answers to Manningham rather than Yarra Ranges.

Three councils, all designated for termites
Wonga Park is split between Manningham, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges. On the planning maps about nine-tenths of it is Manningham's, a small slice Yarra Ranges' and a sliver Maroondah's, so your address decides which council you deal with.
For termites the councils agree on the designation. Manningham's whole municipality is a designated termite zone, all of Maroondah has been designated since 14 April 2005, and so has the whole of Yarra Ranges. Yarra Ranges and Maroondah both say new building work must be protected, though a detached shed or garage need not be. On the Manningham side, your building surveyor says what the building code needs. Termites covers the standards.

Possums under Manningham's rules
Manningham spells the possum rules out. A brushtail caught in a humane trap is released the same day, within 50 m of where it was caught. Trapping a ringtail without a permit is illegal. So the work is sealing the roof once the possum is out, not taking it away. Possums explains how.

Bush blocks along the river
The Yarra is the northern boundary, with a strip of Warrandyte State Park along it, and Jumping Creek is the western one. Two-thirds of Wonga Park is rural living and conservation land on the planning maps and about a sixth is park or reserve; ordinary suburban streets are about two per cent. The name comes from the Wonga Park grazing property, and there are horse riding facilities.
Manningham warns that rodent baits put owls at risk. Since 24 March 2026 the strongest of them, the second-generation anticoagulants, have been suspended for a year and restricted. Rats and mice has what that means for a rat in the shed.

Wasps and swarms
In Manningham a wasp nest on your land is yours to remove, through a licensed pest controller. A honeybee swarm goes to an apiarist instead.

- Chirnside Park
- All Yarra Ranges: the same termite designation, but the council treats wasp nests on its own land only and won't remove snakes.
